Christy Stewart, MSW, established My Paw-Paw and Me Foundation in November, 2009, just six short months since losing her loving father Edward, and her wonderful, young son Bryce in a drowning accident on Mother’s Day. After reflecting on the tragedy and experiencing the trauma firsthand, Christy knew that she had to do something with this tragedy.
People have continually made the same comments to Christy since hearing about her loss: “How are you going to be able to go on?” and “I just can’t imagine how you feel.” As Christy puts it “I knew that the answer to my emotions lie deeply within the question. You do move on, but with a new mission and focus. Yes, you are changed and a part of being changed is accepting the tragedy.”
It was then that God gave Christy Stewart the strength, vision, and wisdom she needed to establish My Paw-Paw and Me Foundation. Oftentimes, grandparents are overlooked for their outstanding efforts and parenting skills, but My Paw-Paw and Me Foundation recognizes the contributions of grandparents, and will honor the legacy that comes from those relationships. The Stewart Family has been so heartbroken from this tragedy and would like to prevent another tragedy. Multiple deaths leave no room for denial, but force a family to stand on its own core values.
